Helping Make Breathing Easier for Over 50 Years
Founded in 1962, the MCIF was initially part of the Laurentian Chest Hospital and raised funds in support of the Royal Edward Laurentian Hospital, which was a merger of the Royal Edward Institute (the Montreal Chest Institute’s former moniker) and the Laurentian Sanatorium Association (a hospital in Saint-Agathe-des-Monts). The foundation’s mission was to support the study, prevention and treatment of tuberculosis and diseases of the chest.
Over the years, the MCIF has undergone several name changes. In March 2001, the Foundation was officially renamed the Montreal Chest Institute Foundation.
Since the beginning, the MCIF’s volunteer Board of Directors has been dedicated to raising funds to help ensure the Montreal Chest Institute’s team has the means to be world leaders in respiratory care, teaching and research. We want Quebecers living with complex respiratory diseases to have access to the most advanced and most compassionate care possible. We also want to help improve the lives of millions worldwide by supporting cutting-edge research that sparks new ideas, develops new treatment protocols and medications and seeks cures.
With the help of donors like you, we can make a huge difference in the lives of so many locally and internationally. Donations from individuals, families, foundations and corporations fulfill three major goals:
Purchase state-of-the-art medical equipment;
Support the launch of innovative treatment programs and services;
Fund pioneering research.
